TEAMSTERS LOCAL 251 WORKERS RETURN TO WORK FOR DHL CONTRACTOR NEARLY SEVEN MONTHS AFTER GOING ON STRIKE
Teamsters workers – on strike since June 22, 2022 – returned to work yesterday after Northeast Transportation Services (NTS) gave notice of leaving Rhode Island effective March 25, 2023. For an affiliated company, NTS ownership had to pay a fine for misclassification of scabs as subcontractors, and had to appear in court for workers’ compensation fraud charges. Teamsters Local 251 will continue to bargain in good faith for these workers with NTS.
This was a nearly seven month strike with Local 251 leading the charge with support from other labor unions and Rhode Island residents. Together we sent a strong message that companies must treat their workers fairly. The Pawtucket location saw a 30% decrease of business during the strike.
