LOCAL 340 TEAMSTERS@WORK: WESTBROOK COMMUNITY CENTER
Each day 12 Teamsters at the Westbrook Community Center ensure that the community’s recreational, educational, social, and experiencial programs run smoothly.
Since the city transformed Westbrook’s old junior high school into an award winning multi-purpose center thousands of area residents have taken advantage of the facility.
Over the last decade, the 94,000 square foot facility has grown into a community gem that offers a variety of programs coordinated both by the Teamster employees and outside agencies and groups. The facilities and services include the gymnasium, indoor pool, batting cages, music studio, polarity studio, spin studio, activity room, community food & resource center, re-sale thrift shop, conference and meeting rooms, senior event room, historical society museum, dance studio, fiber arts programming, and outdoor athletic fields.
During the summer, the members also manage and run a youth summer camp program. More than 160 kids from the community participated in the program last summer.
“The community center is a gathering space for programs that keep the community vibrant and makes Westbrook a special place in Maine,” said Brett Miller, Teamsters Local 340 President. “Local 340 is proud of the members who create, manage and coordinate the diverse programs that make this center so valuable.”
