BLOCK BY BLOCK TRANSIT AMBASSADORS VOTE OVERWHELMINGLY TO JOIN TEAMSTERS LOCAL 25
205 Block by Block Transit Ambassadors in Boston have voted overwhelmingly union yes to join Teamsters Local 25. These workers help transit riders in the station and on the train and often wear a red MBTA jacket.
The four-month campaign was met with aggressive company union busters and misinformation, but the workers prevailed. Our organizers took a focused approach that included talking directly to workers. When it was time to vote, the group showed their power in a resounding victory.
“Our organizers knew that the best way to reach these workers was talking to them one to one,” said Teamsters Joint Council 10 New England Secretary-Treasurer Tom Mari. “Organizers rode the MBTA, met with workers and made sure they were excited and committed to join the Teamsters. These people help residents and travelers alike navigate the often-confusing transit system. They welcome thousands of students, tourists, and residents every day to Boston from across the globe, so it only makes sense they be backed by a world-class union like the Teamsters. Our organizers did a tremendous job organizing this group and we will work just as hard to get them a first contract they can be proud of.”
By the end of the campaign workers were willing to face their employer and demand more by standing united with their coworkers and voting for Teamster representation. Next time you are riding the MBTA and see a Transit Ambassador wearing a red jacket, make sure to say hello and tell them you too are a Teamster!
